Each painter will choose an archetype oracle card and use it as a doorway into your own visual language. From there, you'll explore colors that feel connected to you, an artistic style that draws you in, and images or symbols that hold meaning. Together, these elements give your painting a sense of direction without deciding what it has to become.
From there, you'll bring those pieces together with acrylic paint on a canvas or sheet of acrylic paper. I'll offer practical guidance along the way, from working with color and creating depth and dimension to building your painting through layers.
The class isn't about knowing how to paint or getting it “right.” It's about having enough structure to begin, then paying attention to what happens as your painting develops.
Choose an archetype — A selection of archetype oracle decks to use as the starting point for the painting.
Develop a personal color palette — Identify colors that represent themselves and/or their chosen archetype, with ready-made palette suggestions to help expedite the process.
Choose an artistic style or visual influence — A selection of artistic styles to help determine the visual direction of the painting.
Choose personal symbols and imagery — Groups of related images to spark ideas, such as fairies, mushrooms, and gnome houses tucked inside trees; dragons, sharp mountains, fire, and black gems; or rainbow colors and playful objects inspired by childhood. Painters can use these combinations or create their own.
Learn acrylic painting and layering techniques — Simple examples for creating depth, building dimension, approaching objects, and layering paint.
Create an original painting — Bring the archetype, colors, chosen style, and imagery together into a finished piece while making intuitive choices throughout the process.
